When you need this photo

This page is for people applying for a foreign visa from Japan. Whether you are heading to the United States, China, Korea, the Schengen area, or elsewhere to study, work, stay long-term, or emigrate, your application will require an ID photo.

Where applications go wrong

Most visa-photo rejections come down to one thing: overlooking how the rules change from country to country.

How to create it for ¥200

With a smartphone and ¥200, you can prepare a visa photo built to your destination's spec.

  1. 1

First, pick your destination country's spec

Choose the preset for your destination — U.S., China, Korea, Schengen, and more. That sets the size and background to the country's spec. If your country is not listed, check the size in the destination's official guidance.
  2. 2

Shoot on your phone; AI aligns it to that country's spec

Face the camera against a white wall. After you upload, AI removes the background and adjusts your face position to the chosen country's spec to 0.1mm precision (it never reshapes your face).
  3. 3

Print at a convenience store via the QR code in your email

After payment, a QR code arrives by email. At Lawson, FamilyMart, Ministop, and Poplar, hold up the QR for one-tap printing. For 7-Eleven, print using a separate netprint number. An L-size print is about ¥30.

Frequently asked questions

Is the visa photo size the same for every country?
No. It differs by destination. A U.S. visa photo is a 51×51mm square; a China visa photo is 33×48mm; Korea and Schengen visa photos are 35×45mm. Always pick your destination's spec when creating one.
Why is the U.S. square (51×51mm) when others are rectangular?
Each country's issuing authority sets its own photo spec. The U.S. Department of State uses a 2×2-inch (51×51mm) square, which is a different shape from the 35×45mm rectangle common in many other countries.
Can I keep my glasses on?
It depends on the destination. U.S. visas generally do not allow glasses (medical exceptions apply). Some countries do permit them, so check the destination's official guidance. We finish your photo to the spec of the country you select.
Can I make a visa photo for a country not on the list?
You can create one using the closest matching preset, but always confirm the size and background color in the destination's official guidance. You can rebuild from the same source image for each country's spec.
